Natural Environment > Cape of Pomos

Roughly two kilometers in the north side of the village is found the cape of Pomos, which is known as "Akron Pomou'" and that owes its creation in its hard rock that encircles it and which bore the erosive energy of the sea waves. The way from the Polis via Pomos to the "Akron Pomou", is one of the most graphic coastal ways of the island. The mountain falls vertically in the sea while the abrupt areas are covered with pines and fruit trees. Moreover the seashores with a lot of small harbors and small sharp capes give to the landscape a unique picturesqueness.

The archimandrite Kyprianos reports it as cape Kallinousas or Agia Eleni. The medieval maps report the names Kallinousa and Agia Eleni. These names had been given to the cape, during the seasons at which in the region existed homonym settlements.
